I&E Technician

The I&E Technician is responsible for reporting any irregularities, equipment faults, or abnormal conditions to the Supervisor to ensure timely corrective action and protect the integrity of plant operations. The role also includes performing scheduled checks on standby systems and troubleshooting faulty equipment under guidance.
Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, commission, and maintain instrumentation, control, and fire & gas systems.
  • Conduct system walkdowns and develop accurate punch lists with clear descriptions to aid in issue resolution.
  • Execute commissioning, testing, servicing, and repair of instruments and devices, including control, metering, recording equipment, communications/telemetry, and Fire & Gas systems.
  • Perform commissioning work on circuits, level/flow/temperature/pressure devices, and associated control systems.
  • Install, calibrate, and commission input sensors such as flow meters, pressure transmitters, level transducers, and fire & gas detectors.
  • Diagnose and repair faulty sensors and related monitoring equipment.
  • Support commissioning procedures and assigned electrical tasks.
  • Maintain and repair low-voltage switchgear.
  • Install and service cathodic protection, corrosion control, and related equipment.
  • Commission and maintain lighting and control systems.
  • Inspect, adjust, and test safety switches.
  • Maintain documentation, reports, and inventory of electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Identify work issues, propose corrective measures, and ensure task completion.
  • Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form, while following established instructions.
Management Responsibility:
This is an individual contributor role with no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Education & Experience:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Solid knowledge of instrumentation, controls, safety systems, and electrical equipment.
  • 3-7 years of related experience.
  • OSHA 10-hour training certification.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Strong understanding of electrical/instrumentation theory, methods, and testing tools used in oil and gas commissioning.
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs and work with telemetry and communications equipment.
  • Proficiency with Fire & Gas detection systems, valve positioners, DC power systems, analog/discrete signals, pneumatic systems, and HART protocol.
  • Knowledge of control logic schemes, PLC/DCS systems, and process automation.
  • Skilled in report writing, record keeping, and using permit-to-work systems.
Work Conditions:
Assignments may include both onshore and offshore environments.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to exert varying levels of physical effort ranging from light (10–20 lbs.) to heavy (up to 100 lbs.) depending on tasks.
  • Capability to kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, stand, sit, walk, push, pull, and lift as needed.
  • Good vision, hearing, and communication skills are essential.
Environmental Factors:
  • Work may take place in extreme temperatures, high-noise areas, or conditions involving exposure to vibration, moving machinery, electrical hazards, and airborne particles.
  • Some tasks may require vehicle operation (licenses as applicable).
